Many Worlds Story Collector
The inspiration for my new band Many Worlds came from dealing with the physical and mental trauma I suffered when I was hit by a drunk driver while riding my bike home from a gig one cold and rainy September night in 2012. In the aftermath of this horrible and violent incident, I spent a lot of time considering what life would be like if I had walked home, or if I had stayed an extra five minutes at the gig. What would my life have been like if this accident hadn't happened? This lead me to the concept of Many Worlds, a theory in quantum physics that with every possibility a new reality is created to house that outcome. Which means that there is a reality where this never happened, but there are also realities where I was much more seriously injured…
For the final track of our debut record, I am inviting people to contribute their stories about a moment when they felt as if their life could have taken a different path. This could be anything from being in the right place at the right time to meeting the love of your life, missing the bus that crashed, or turning down the big job in another city… or accepting it! It doesn't matter if the story is “epic”, but it should feel like a moment where if things had been just a little different, you'd be leading a whole other life.
These stories will be collected and combined to create a din of voices, like a crowd of people speaking at once, so do not worry if you are feeling shy, it is unlikely that anyone will be able to hear any one single voice and follow along. We'll accept recordings done on phones, but if you have the capacity to make a “nice recording” go for it! Stories should be 3-6 minutes in length, but don't worry if you fall short or go long.
You can send the recordings to:
